Class Description:

  1. This course is vital to all students wishing to pursue a successful art career, as well as students who wish to improve their drawing and painting skills.
    The course begins with Fundamentals 101, which stresses drawing and composition, then continues with Fundamentals 102, stressing color theory and application. In 103, students put into practice theories and applications learned in the 101 and 102 classes through several landscape painting studies.
  2. Each assignment is designed specifically for both the beginning fine art student as well as intermediate students. This course covers the basics of color theory and practice, composition, linear perspective and many of the various techniques of painting.
  3. Following the tradition of the Academy method of instruction, all three levels are taught in the same classroom, which encourages reinforcement of theories and practices within all levels.

Due to limited classroom space, this class is limited to 16 students. Priority will be given to students who have completed Fun. 101 or 102. To reserve a place in the class, tuition must be paid in full.

For the experienced, exploring various drawing media and the individual style will be added. The class will begin with gesture/contour drawings followed by long pose drawing from a live model that may run for multiple weeks.

Course Description:
This still life class introduces multi-layered oil painting techniques perfected by Dutch and Italian masters of the 17th century. Students learn about historical painting material and supports: preparation of linen, copper, and wood panel, and the use of pigmented grounds and imprimatura. Each session begins with a demonstration of traditional procedures, such as underdrawing, form rendering, warm and cool color applications, and paint handling techniques of impasto, scumbling and glazing. The class produces two still life paintings, each taking five sessions to complete. Open to all levels.

Tom brings his passion for watercolor and teaching to the Palette and Chisel Academy. This class is open to all levels of painters. Any artist looking to break free of a careful, timid painting process will find Tom's direct, loose and representational approach very inspirational. Through Tom's lectures, demonstrations and personal instruction, students will be exposed to such topics as concept, value relationships, planning a painting, design and its application, along with color and its usage. The beginning painter will find Tom's sensitivity and experience invaluable in overcoming the common hurdles associated with watercolor, while the more experienced painter will be challenged to reach beyond the ordinary in an effort to stretch personal horizons. Tom endeavors to create an atmosphere of exploration and growth where student painting time and individual direction/guidance is always a priority. Course Description:
Becker teaches beginner students to use the medium of watercolor from the basics to the advanced. For the seasoned student, he pushes them to reach one step ahead by encouraging and instructing them to improve their skills as a watercolorist. He usually has 15 to 19 students but instructs his class by teaching each student at his or her level and speed. A one-on-one approach in a class with many different student levels.
