DESCRIPTION:Four three-hour classes over four weeks \nHave you been tied in knots trying to draw human hair and the myriad ways it’s cut\, layered\, combed and coiffed? Do you sweat trying to unravel the puzzle of French braids? Are you in the weeds with Keef Richard shags? Are you lost in the labyrinth of dread knots? Flustered with high top fades? Comb overs? Crew cuts? Hot comb curls? \nWell\, this is the class for you where we’ll tackle all that shining\, gleamin’\, flaxen\, waxen hair! Styles just after they shore it or long like Jesus wore it. \nWhen you walk out the door\, sketchbook in hand\, whether you come across Afros\, spit curls or Mohawks\, you’ll have a strategy and the know-how to demystify the tonsorial art of locks décor. \nWe’ll meet the first two sessions in the dining room at the Palette & Chisel to examine drawings from history\, reams of my hair studies\, and where I’ll demo several hair styles. We will also draw from photos and from each other. I’ll assign (encourage) some “homework” to be reviewed the following class. The next two classes we will be out in the wild where we’ll meet to draw from life with review of our results in the last half hour. \nBring medium-size sketchbooks that can accommodate dry and wet medium. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, August 28 from 6 to 9 pm for the opening reception and awards! \nChicago’s Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts is pleased to announce an annual art exhibition and competition dedicated to showcasing and awarding upcoming talent in the world of representational art. Our goal is to select work by emerging artists under 40 years old that demonstrates an excellent command of foundational skills while following a distinct and personal creative instinct. As our background is in classical and contemporary realism\, we will be looking for pieces that arise from these traditions. Nevertheless\, we welcome representational work that exists outside of these categories\, so long as it demonstrates sufficient technical aptitude. \nThe show’s objective is to support the vision of younger\, emerging artists. As such\, emerging artists under 40 will be represented in all areas of the exhibition\, including the pool of jurors\, judges and organizers. The idea is to create a showcase of younger artists\, by younger artists. \nThe show will be on view for one month. We will be organizing a number of events\, including an opening reception\, artist talks\, demos\, and more during this period. Our goal is for these events to transform the exhibition into more than just an art show by sparking thought\, conversation and creativity inspired by the selected works. Exhibiting artists are encouraged to participate in these events. \nThe show will run through September 27.
